- Biographical history: Zakia Hamid Jalal was sister-in-law of the Urdu short-story writer Saadat Hassan Manto (known as Manto). She was 18 and in Bombay [Mumbai] during Partition. She lived with Manto during Partition and when the family later moved to Lahore. Her daugter is the historian Ayesha Jalal.
