- Biographical history: S.M. Jaffar was born in 1919 into a Muslim family. He was the Congress president of Lucknow Student's Union in 1942. He was jailed for three years for his activism in Quit India movement. He later became a journalist. He was involved in politics with Bharatiya Lok Dal and later Congress Party and became a member of UP legislative council.
