Biographical history: Savindra Trivedi was a Brahmin by birth and the daughter of a barrister. She was a freedom fighter during British rule and was in jail during Partition. She is the cousin of Indian revolutionary, Chandra Shekhar Azad. She helped establish the Gandhi Vanita Ashram for Widows & Destitute Women shelter.

Biographical history: Rukamni Devi was originally from Garh Maharaja, West Punjab. She had an association with Ghandhi Vanita Ashram.

Biographical history: Prakashwanti was originally from West Punjab. She was attacked during Partition violence and her husband and son killed. She travelled to Amritsar.
General Note:
Biographical history: Swaran was brought to Ghandhi Vanita Ashram as a baby, an orphan of Partition. She left the Ghandhi Vanita Ashram following her marriage but returned to the shelter when her marriage failed.
