500        |a Biographical history: I. K. Gujral was born on 4th December 1919 in Jhelum. He studied at D.A.V. College, Hailey College of Commerce and Forman Christian College University, Lahore. He was an activist in the Quit India Movement and as a student was a member of the Communist Party of India. During Partition he was in Lahore and Karachi. Gujral joined the Congress party in 1964 and became a member of the Rajya Sabha. During the Indian Emergency, Gujral was Minister of Information and Broadcasting. He resigned from the Indian National Congress party in 1988 and joined the Janata Dal. He was elected as a parliamentarian for Jalandhar, Punjbab. Gujral served as Minister of External Affairs (1989-1990; 1996-1998). He was the thirteenth Prime Minister of India from April 1997 to March 1998. He died on the 30 November 2012.
