Wildtrack - rRecorded at Jama Masjid, Srinagar, main Friday
prayers, 7 March 1997; perhaps 2,000 present - the youthful
Mirwaiz, Umar Farooq (seated slightly above the congregation,
wearing a near-white Kashmiri cap, and then after the prayers,
going down to make a political speech) leading the prayers
The Jama Masjid is an imposing building, courtyarded, with
massive, stout wooden pillars, a central area, and then three of
the very distinctive Kashmiri mssque towers; has for long also
been a political rallying point. The Mirwaiz's address contains
words like 'Hindustan', 'BSF', 'Azaadi' and 'Hurriyat'
