|a The photograph is captioned: 'Weaving loin cloths. These are made either of cotton or silk. Lead beads are woven into neat and effective patterns at both ends while the threads are on the loom. Whether made of cotton or silk, they are hand spun. Among the Besileo these cloths are used for burying boys. They are swathed round and round the body, beginning at the head and finishing at the feet. Only even numbers - 2, 4, 6, 8 etc must be used! It would be unlucky to use odd numbers. T.E. Buck'. |
