General Note:
In May 1831, Rasalama was among the first Malagasy to be baptized. In 1835, when Queen Ranavalona I declared Christianity illegal, Rasalama went into hiding. She was arrested and sent into slavery in July 1837 and later sentenced to death on the grounds of rebellion. She was executed on August 14, 1837; and, herbody was left unburied.
