satisfactory on the whole, especially as regards foreign exports,
which surpassed the currency totals for the past two years, though
imports showed a decrease.
Average currency values for the years 1906-10 are given in the
appended tables, but it is probably only since 1909 that the trade
hinterland of Pakhoi has covered its present area, which used to be
considerably more extensive before the opening to foreign business of
Nanning on the West liiver in 1907. A Maritime Customs-house
has been established at the French port of Kwaugchouwan, but,
opium apart, this probably does not divert much business from
Pakhoi.
