the Hokkaido Flax Manufacturing Company was formed with a

amalgamated with the Japan Flax Manufacturing Company and its
total capital now stands at 000,0002. It has 25,000 acres under
cultivation and possesses 18 flax scotching mills in the Hokkaido,
whose output is distributed equally between the Sapporo factory
and those on the main island. The total output in 1906 was valued
at 280,0002., of which 80,0002. worth was manufactured at Sapporo.
The company's factories are situated at Osaka, Nikko (spinning
only), Otsu, Shikanuma and Sapporo (spinning and weaving), and
