“...features of the year's trade was
the decrease in deliveries both of Indian and Japanese yarn, the
former declining by 220,000 bales and the latter by some 173,000 bales.
Whilst much of the decrease was due to the stoppage of business in
the last two months of the year, the increased deliveries of local yarn
point to the conclusion that a considerable portion of the Indian and
Japanese trade will be ousted in the future by the local mills, which
more than regained their position, and many of which are declaring
dividends. The taxation levied on the products of mills in China is
a serious handicap to the growth of the cotton industry, which the
mill-owners hope the Republican Government will take some steps to
remove.
