“...Nagasaki. 11 opened in July, 1912, and the final section, between Kojiro and Shimabara, will probably be completed by March, 1913. No further particulars are officially forthcoming in regard to railway construction in this Consular district, but it is stated in the local Press that the section from Yoshimatsu to Kobayashi on the Miyazaki branch line of the Imperial Railway will be opened in September, 1912. Several large saw mills, including some under foreign management, are in this district, and the railway will greatly increase facilities for the transportation of lumber. Exhibitions.—The proposal to hold an exhibition of local products on a small scale at Nagasaki during 1912, mentioned in last year's trade report, has been dropped. Population.-^Official returns give the Japanese population of Nagasaki City on December 31, 1911, as 179,257 persons, of whom 96,904 were males and 82,353 females, the number of householders being 22,372.
