Industrial enterprises.—An electric light installation has been

port of Chinlciang. The plant and machinery are second-hand, and
were brought from Soochow where they were previously used.
The Chinkiang bean cake mill continues to work with success
and profit. The Taichou and Kaoyu flour mills have again had a
successful year, and appear now to be soundly established as going
concerns. It is a pity that the same cannot be said of the flour mills
at Haichou and Tsingkiangpu and the Suchien glassworks.
Silk filatures (talun).—This filature has dealt with 1,650 piculs
of cocoons during the year, producing 350 piculs of raw silk,
which sold at an average price of 745 taels per picul. It was all ex-
ported abroad. I am indebted for these details to the manager.
I have been unable to obtain any details of the output of the other
Chinkiang filature, the yungli.
