The total trade of Hankow in 1903 amounted to 22,028,017?.; Total trade,
that of 1902 was 15,080,448?. The increase to the credit of the
past year is 6,947,569?. To these totals imports contributed
11,823,302?. and exports 10,204,715?. in 1903, the corresponding
items in 1902 being 7,398,032?. and 7,682,416?. What is especially
noticeable is the falling-off of exports to Russia, which has decreased
via Odessa by 46,148?., via Kiakhta by 30,439?., and to Manchuria,
classed as Russian," by 25,969?., a total of 102,556?. The trade of
Chinese ports was: exports, 11,409,369?.; imports, 9,182,488?.;
making together 20,591,857?., an increase over 1902 of 6,664,001?.
Of the total increase in 1903, viz., 6,947,569?., only 283,568?. is
due to foreign imports and exports.
The total number of steamers entering the port in 1903 was shipping,
greater by 35 vessels than that in 1902, and the tonnage has increased
by over 80,000 tons; nearly the whole of this increased...”
