Notes

General Note:
This scroll features two images of Shinto rites at Utō in Sashū (善知鳥神事之圖) (Utō shinji no zu) and two images of the Bon festival dance at Utō in Sashū (盆踊之圖) (Bonodori no zu). Bon, or Obon, celebrated on the evening of 13-16 July (now celebrated in mid-August on the solar calendar), is a Buddhist festival during which people pay respect to the dead and bid them farewell.
