- This scroll features two images of Shinto rites at Utō in Sashū (善知鳥神事之圖) (Utō shinji no zu) and two images of the Bon festival dance at Utō in Sashū (盆踊之圖) (Bonodori no zu). Bon, or Obon, celebrated on the evening of 13-16 July (now celebrated in mid-August on the solar calendar), is a Buddhist festival during which people pay respect to the dead and bid them farewell.

- The scroll belonged to Tatsuyuki TAKANO (高野辰之, 1876-1947). The seal 斑山文庫 was used for his collection. Hanzan is his pseudonym. It was acquired by SOAS as a gift.
