|a The crow, seated at the top of a tree, saw a fowler set a trap with a net and grain. After a while a flock of hungry pigeons arrived, and despite the wise advice of ring-dove, their chief, could not resist the lure of the grain. Caught in the fowler’s net, they vainly flapped their wings until ring-dove persuaded them to unite their efforts, which allowed them to raise the net and fly off. The fowler followed, expecting them to tire and fall, so to lose him the pigeons flew among buildings, coming at last to the hole of the mouse, who gnawed through the net and set them free. Much impressed by the loyalty of the mouse, the crow then sets about the task of gaining his friendship. -- The miniature shows the moment in which the pigeons manage to fly off, still in the net, while the fowler runs after them and the crow observes from the top of the tree.
