|a His leather shield is hung on the post on the left, the wooden horns on the post each representing a head hunting raid in which he took part. On the smaller posts are hung offerings to his spirit, including gourds, drinking vessels and baskets. After the harvest the annual "clearance of the souls" ceremony takes place, when all the ornamentation is removed from that year's graves and the souls are told odepart from the village to the land of the dead. |
