General Note:
These scenes appear in the novel the Romance of the three kingdoms. According to Peter Lam this print was probably produced in 1908 when the Qing dynasty emperor Guangxu (r. 1875-1908)5. During this period of state mourning the use of bright colours on New Year pictures was forbidden.
