General Note:
George E. Cormack was born in 1886. He spent the period 1913-1917 in Manchuria as a business representative, returning to Britain escorting a group of Chinese labourers destined for the Chinese Labour Corps. He served with the British Expeditionary Force in North Russia between 1918-1919 and this was followed by a brief sojourn in South Russia, 1919-1920. He then worked in Estonia and Latvia as a shipping agent, 1924-1940. He returned to northern Russia from 1941-1942 as a Ministry of War Transport representative with the Murmansk convoys. He died in 1959.

General Note:
Saint Sophia Cathedral in Harbin, a Russian Orthodox cathedral, was completed in March 1907 after the completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Cathedral, originally a church, was built wood. Between 1923 and 1932, with a third of Harbin's population Russians, the church was expanded and was designated as a Cathedral. In 2014, the Cathedral remains the largest Orthodox church in the far east.
