The original title of this slide was "Chinese Coolie Labour Corps - pictures made in coloured sands to mark a festival on Vancouver Island". "Coolie" entered the English language having passed through a variety of South Asian languages including Persian. Before becoming racially charged, the word originally referred to an individual who worked as a day labourer. For more information, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coolie
