545        |a References to Mr Post and Le Resouvenir, his plantation (eight miles from George Town, Demerara), can be found in 'The History of the London Missionary Society, 1795-1895', by Richard Lovett (Vol. II, pp 319-320). Lovett describes the early work of the London Missionary Society in Demerara, where they established a mission in 1807: "Mr H. H. Post, a planter, concerned for the spiritual welfare of the slaves and others under his care, had written to the Directors [of the LMS] urging them to send out a minister, and promising his own protection and assistance." The missionary John Wray was selected for this service, arriving in 1808, where he worked chiefly among the enslaved Africans on Mr Post's plantations, and those from neighbouring estates. Lovett goes on to describe how Mr Post contributed financially to the building of the mission: "A chapel capable of holding 600 hearers was built, mainly at his expense and upon his land, the Directors contributing £100. It was opened September 11, 1808. Mr Post built also a minister's house, expending on these works over £1,000."
