500        |a A floral design on paper with intricate Quranic verses in Arabic with Ya Ali written in the centre in black with gold illumination. Small sized Quranic verses forms a border around the floral design. Two further borders, one floral design and the outer border, diagonal black and white lines. A saying (hadith) from the Prophet Muhammad in praise of Ali ibn Abi Talib in Arabic at the bottom in gold illumination. [ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (601 or 607 or 600) was the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad, ruling over the Islamic Caliphate from 656 to 661. Ali was the first male convert to Islam. Sunnis consider Ali the fourth and final of the Rashidun (rightly guided Caliphs), while Shias regard Ali as the first Imam and consider him and his descendants the rightful successors to Muhammad, all of which are members of the Ahl al-Bayt, the household of Muhammad. This disagreement split the Ummah (Muslim community) into the Sunni and Shia branches]. Black ink with gold illumination on paper. 1 sheet. Dimensions: 35.5 x 27
