“...missionaries that
have continued their residence in Macao—will remove to Hongkong, as soon as the houses, here in progress of
buildiag, are completed. Dr. Hobson’s medical practice has been extensive and very successful; and on his
removal to Hongkong, it will be resumed in the new buildings of the Medical Missionary Society.
The Rey. Mr. Parker, with Mrs. Parker, returned to China in October; and soon after proceeded to
Canton, where they now reside, in one of the foreign factories. The senior hong-merchant, Howqua, has
venerously given to the Medical Missionary Society the use of the*building, formerly occupied as a hospital,
and Dr. Parker has there resumed his medical practice, and the place is thronged as it used to be with patients.
There have been of late some popular movements in Canton. On the 7th of Dec., the people became
incensed and riotous, and three of the factories—the English, Dutch, and Creek—were reduced to ashes, and
live of the Chinese desperadoes killed.
