Abstract:
Nada Anid was born in Beirut in 1962 and spent most of her life living in Beirut. In the 1980s she went to Paris to study graphic design, and spent some time living in London and Italy as well. After her return to Lebanon she worked in advertising. In 1998 she began working with an NGO called Association pour le development rural, providing microfinance opportunities and education to women in the south of Lebanon. She also did some humanitarian work with displaced people during the 2006 July War. She is the co-founder of Women in Front, an organization advocating for increased representation of women in media and politics. They organized a social media campaign during the Lebanese elections to encourage women to vote and become involved in politics and to promote female candidates. They have also worked with female candidates to build their capacity. They are working on a new electoral law to introduce a parliamentary quota for women. Nada has published a biography of the Lebanese bookshop owner Antoine Naufal and, at the time of the interview, was writing a political biography. ( en )

Funding : Women's Activism in the Arab World (2013-2016). This project, funded by a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship, examines the significance of middle-class women's activism to the geo/politics of Arab countries, from national independence until the Arab uprisings. It was based on over 100 personal narratives of women activists of different generations from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
