Abstract:
Rima Fakhry was born in the south of Lebanon in 1966 and lived and grew up in Beirut. Her father was a businessman and her mother a homemaker. She completed a BSc in agricultural engineering and an MA in International Affairs in Beirut. In 1984/85, Rima joined the Hizbollah Student Affairs society. After university Rima worked for the Women's Association of Hezbollah, in Beirut, primarily in education and social welfare activities. Since 2004 Rima is a member of the political bureau of Hezbollah. ( en )
General Note:
Funding : Women's Activism in the Arab World (2013-2016). This project, funded by a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship, examines the significance of middle-class women's activism to the geo/politics of Arab countries, from national independence until the Arab uprisings. It was based on over 100 personal narratives of women activists of different generations from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
