- Abstract:
- Souad Jarrar was born in Saudi Arabia in 1960 to Palestinian (West Bank) parents. Her father worked in a bank and her mother was a teacher. After completing high school in Saudi Arabia she moved to Lebanon and attended the American University of Beirut graduating with a BA in Agriculture and a Master's in information technology. As a student in AUB, she became active in the Palestinian national cause and volunteered in the Palestinian refugee camps. After graduation, she moved briefly to Jordan and worked as a teacher of sciences and maths and later in public relations. Then she married and returned to Lebanon and began volunteering with a Palestinian NGO called Inaash, focusing on the revival and preservation of Palestinian embroidery and building kindergartens in the camps. She trained in fashion design and art and then worked with Palestinian refugee women training them to design Palestinian embroidery products. Souad also volunteers in other initiatives to help youth and children in Lebanon. ( en )

- Funding : Women's Activism in the Arab World (2013-2016). This project, funded by a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship, examines the significance of middle-class women's activism to the geo/politics of Arab countries, from national independence until the Arab uprisings. It was based on over 100 personal narratives of women activists of different generations from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
