520 3    |a Ghida Anani was born on 22 March 1981 and raised in Beirut. Her father is a pilot and her mother is a homemaker. Ghida studied medical social work at the Lebanese University and, during that time, attended a seminar organized by the Lebanese Council to Resist Violence against Women (LECORVAW), which, at that time, was the only Lebanese organization working on the issue of violence against women. In her 4th year of university, around 2002, she began working as a social worker for LECORVAW. Then she co-founded the not-for-profit company, KAFA: Enough Violence and Exploitation. Through this organization, Ghida conducted the first national study on the prevalence of child sexual abuse in Lebanon and established a counseling centre and hotline for women facing abuse. In 2011, she founded Abaad (also a non-profit company), which is a resource centre for gender equality and works to include men in the ‘feminist conversation’.
