Notes

Abstract:
Gisele Khoury was born in Beirut on 15 February 1961. Her mother mostly stayed at home with the children, but was also involved in humanitarian work as the President of the Red Cross in their region. Her father worked as a lawyer, but passed away at the beginning of the civil war. Gisele completed her BA in journalism in Beirut and a diploma in history in Jounieh in 1983. During the Lebanese civil war she took first aid courses and volunteered for the Red Cross for 2 years. After 1985 she began working in the social and cultural department for LBC, a private television station in Lebanon. After 1991, she hosted her own television show on politics in the Arab world. She worked with LBC for 16 years before she was forced to resign. Following the assassination of her then husband, journalist Samir Kassir, in 2005, she created a foundation in his name for protecting journalists at risk. At the time of the interview, she was working on a documentary about Lebanese politician Kamal Jumblatt, and preparing to take up a new job with the BBC. ( en )
