Notes

Abstract:
Lina was born on 15 May 1982, during the Israeli invasion of Beirut. Her mother works as a chief executive in a hotel and her father used to work as a steward with Middle East Airlines, and now works as a traffic officer. Both parents are refugees from Palestine but naturalized Lebanese citizens. Lina studies journalism at the American University of Science and Technology. She became involved in volunteering in the Shatila refugee camp when she was around 16-17 years old, and later started working with Zakera, a small NGO created by friends to teach photography in the Palestinian refugee camps. Lina participated in the Cedar Revolution of 2005 and the Occupy Movement in 2011 to end sectarianism as well as other street protests. She was involved in writing for a website called MenaSat, funded by a Dutch NGO, until 2009. Lina is a singer and actor and at the time of the interview had recently returned to university to complete her degree. ( en )
