520 3    |a Romy Lynn Attieh was born in March of 1982 and grew up in Virginia, USA. She moved to Lebanon when she was 12 years old with her Lebanese mother, who owned a fashion boutique franchise in Virginia Beach and now works in merchandising fashion. Her father is a businessman and her parents are divorced. Romy did her undergraduate degree at the American University of Beirut and studied architecture. She became involved with the university's Women's Rights club and started to participate more in activist circles between 2003-2004. She participated in the Cedar Revolution of 2005. After graduation she worked as an administrative assistant for an architectural firm. She was evacuated during the 2006 War. After this she left architecture to pursue her dream of working in the arts, becoming the production manager of a dance company for 2 years. She helped create an artist collective called Jamaa Al-Yad, with a graphic designer named Daniel Drennan, which she is still a part of today. She has worked as a freelancer on her own dance production as well as an editor. At the time of the interview, she was completing her masters degree in anthropology.
