Abstract:
Contains a note from James Stephen to the Duke of Gloucester explaining that this is the speech that he intended to deliver at the annual meeting of the African Institution on 26 March 1817. Stephen attempts to describe the recent hostilities demonstrated towards the African Institution and explain their origins. The African Institution's desire to create a Registration Bill (register of African slaves) is cited as the primary reason. Stephen also seeks to defend the slanders made against his son's character.
