A comprehensive survey of the heritage of this historically influential tradition is an urgent, yet to be accomplished task. The Lonkagaccha is an aniconic religious tradition that emerged and flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries. It had a significant impact on the religious and social history of Jainism, but declined from the 18th century onward. Today it is on the verge of extinction, while the aniconic Sthanakavasi and Terapanth traditions, which branched off the Lonkagaccha lineages in the 17th and 18th centuries, continue to thrive. |

|a The text is a Mūrtipūjaka Śvetāmbara polemic against Paṇyāsa Harakhakīrati (Paṃnyāsa Harṣakīrti), a monk of the Mūrtipūjaka tradition, who during his cāturmāsa in Dhaṃdhukā and Pāṭaṇa adopted the beliefs and practices of local followers of Luṅkā, who are accused of rejecting the importance of the guru, images, sacred sites, and practices such as jinapūjā, tīrthayātrā, dāna, svadharma vātsalya, rātrī bhojana tyāga, sāmāyika, dharmalābha, pratyākhyāna, etc. The date of the text mentioned in verse 6 proves that the beliefs formed by Loṅkā from VS 1508 on were already popular before VS 1530. This is the second oldest known text depicting beliefs and practices of the followers of Loṅkā |
