Notes

General Note:
Note on reverse of frame by Irene Fletcher, former London Missionary Society Librarian & Archivist, dated 27 Nov 1967, indicates that the portrait was painted from the miniature of John Smith made before he went out to British Guiana. The timber of the frame was brought home by the Rev Hawley Boyant Col. M. D. in the early 1930s. The greenheart wood was originally part of the Le Resouvenir Chapel - then used in the Smith Memorial Church, George Town,of which Hawley Boyant was minister.
General Note:
Not to be confused with John Smith of Madras, 1790-1824. This is John Smith of Demerara, 1792?-1824.
