Notes
- Abstract:
- "The Healer" was originally painted by Harold Copping (1863-1932), probably better known for his work "The Hope of the World" produced for the London Missionary Society in 1915. "The Healer" was commissioned by the LMS in 1916 to help publicize the Society's medical mission. It was launched in the Society's periodical, News from Afar, February 1917, which was aimed at children. The piece entitled "Sindano and the Good Chief", by Vera Walker, was published to coincide with Medical Missions Week, February 11-18, and told the story of the picture. Tom Curr, a Scottish artist, was commissioned by the London Missionary Society to produce another painting, "Follow Me" in 1935. That illustration of Christ leading a group of children of different races along a road, went on to became a hugely popular Sunday School picture, and was also distributed in the USA and Canada.
