“...went to school with. It brings back many old and dear memories. My husband, George, and I have had a fairly quiet year as George has not been too well. He now has a heart pacemaker in place which we hope will help. I keep in touch with HELEN (HEAL) COWARD and her father David - Chefoo 1937. They both live in London, England. KARI (TOR JESEN) MALCOLM (1938-42) What joy to receive the Chefoo magazine for summer 2000. My Chefusian heart is always warmed when I receive news of the Chefoo Schools Association. How I appreciate the names of those of you who are listed on the back cover of the Chefoo magazine that just arrived. A lovely thanks to each of you for the time and energy you put into keeping the Chefoo Magazine going. ELIZABETH (JACOB) MARBLE (1933-36) Thank you for all the hard work you invest in putting together ’our’ magazine’. The ties remain strong even after six-plus decades. Which reminds me that the calendar pages keep flipping. When I get old I’ll start slowing down, but until...”

“...still a super donor. Friends see that I get to a multitude of church events. The year’s biggest news is that my younger daughter, Ruth and her husband, are moving back to San Diego. Hurrah and three cheers! CATHERINE NICOLL (1918-28) My sister RACHEL MORRISON passed away in Scotland, 18 May 2000. Her daughter Dorothy Morrison is going to visit me in Calgary this fall. MARY (TAYLOR) PREVITE (1939-45) I was thrilled to speak at the national reunion/convention of the China-Burma-lndia Veterans Association last year in Houston, Texas, and to honour Chefusian JIM MOORE there among his peers. Jim got the standing ovation he deserves from a clapping, weeping, table-pounding, flashbulb-popping banquet hall crowded with hundreds of veterans who served in China-Burma-lndia during World War II. Jim was one of the six American heroes who parachuted from a low-flying bomber in 1945 to liberate the Weihsien concentration camp in China. I continue to keep in regular contact with members of the rescue team...”

She had followed Gertrude (Gibb) Jones (Chefoo 1910-1921) who left to become a missionary in Argentina. These years were very happy and rewarding and she only left in 1974 when she married an old friend Norman MacBeth and went to live on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. On his death she visited her friend Ruth Deans (also Shantymen) in Toronto and was able to move into Christie Gardens - where she lived very happily for 14 years. At 97 Marjorie still enjoyed life to the fullest, going for walks in the garden almost daily, entertaining friends at luncheon and overnight, attending the Bible Study Group and serving on the Committee. For entertainment she depended on her numerous library of Talking...”
