“...2. CHEFOO SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION President: REV. P. A. BRUCE Vice-Presidents BISHOP F. HOUGHTON MRS. L. CLINTON MR. H. F. JOYCE MR. J. B. MARTIN MR. W.D MUDDITT WHAT IS HAPPENING ? ? ? As you open this magazine your mind, if not your lips and eyes, will be full of questions. The fact of the matter is, that as the cost of printing continues to rise, our subscriptions do not cover the increases. The production of this issue is an experiment and when you have become used to it, we hope that you will like it. It certainly suits our pockets better and as our membership is hardly likely to increase, the cost of production by this method will correspond more nearly with the funds available. Your Editors present this issue in its new format after much time and thought has been given by your General Committee in considering all the necessary details. For a good many years we have been well served by the Manager and his staff of Evangelical Christian Literature, Bristol. In recent years they have not...”

“...would never be able to resume his active duties, it nearly broke my heart for probably there were so many little things required doing and he was not able to communicate his wants, desires or aspirations. There is no question Edward Douglas Gibb remained my friend throughout our joint lives and although our paths went by different routes, our contacts were as warm and friendly as when first made out in Chefoo, nearly 50 years ago. Born 1909 Died 1965 Al/ERELL ROBINSON, Q.C. EDWARD GIBB (Chefoo Schools, 1915 to 1925) Edward Gibb, as a boy, was not self assertive or aggressive. He was watchful and alert against infringements of his inner integrity and accepted what was offered to him in the spirit of the counsel "Prove all things, hold fast that which is good". He could be depended on to stand at the side of the Good and the Best. After leaving Chefoo, he came to Toronto and entered McMaster University. There, by native intelligence and steady application, he won a good degree in Honour Mathematics...”

“...back I can almost say I have spent my business and professional life with my many friends of the Chefoo Schools Association. Back in 1935 at the time I was called to the bar -China was still open to all missionaries and our Chefoo Schools were turning out good citizens to take their place in the world. Now Chefoo is closed and our cherished buildings are probably ruins and yet Chefoo has not died but its traditions are transferred to Japan, the Philippines, and The Cameron Highlands in Malaya. I now lay my small torch down for others to seize and carry forward to new traditions. I must also add my sincere and deep appreciation for a lovely permanent souvenir given to me in February at our annual Chinese meal reunion. Many thanks to all who were responsible for such a surprise and may I still be able to continue contributing a small part towards the future success of my old Chefoo Schools Association. “...finished nurses' training, and ESTHER in college. PAM still is in second grade, and so should give us just cause to keep this job a while longer! We are so grateful to God for our family. Our larger family continues to fascinate us as we go through various stages of development with them. Two more college girls joined us last June, BARB and MARGUERITE DUNN, attending Columbia Bible College, and Houghton respectively. They have added much to our family and as we are somewhat central to their two schools, this provides an ideal home base for them. We had 27 eating and sleeping in the big house here for the vacation, and of course when friends of the kids came in for meals, we ranged anywhere up to 36 which was the high tide mark. ROB JOYCE, son of close friends (RAYMOND...”

“...London News for May 1, p.28, and his Birth of Japanese Art in the N.Y. Times for July 18, p.6 of Book Review Section. This man is going right to the top of his field." (and CARRINGTON should know, because it is closely related to his own field. Secy.) Of the HATTON family we hear: "MARGARET HATTON KLABE was married to Richard Klabe on August 28, 1965. Her address is 141 Wyneva St. Philadelphia. JOHN and ANNA HATTON, address 6012 Greene St. Philadelphia, are both teaching in Philadelphia public schools. HOWARD and LORRAINE HATTON and family returned to Thailand with the O.M.F. in July 1965, where they are working at the production of literature. HETTY HATTON graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in August 1965. She is to return to West Pakistan when the war is over. In the meantime she is employed at the German town Hospital, Philadelphia. If the International issue of the Chefusian Magazine is available I would be glad to receive a copy." (This is a mystery to me. Does it mean this...”
