“...Newsletter No. 28
DECEMBER, 1941
Chefoo Schools Great Britain
Association % Branch.
Editorial.
In wartime it is both more difficult and more necessary than in days of peace to keep in touch with one another. Surely now, if ever—amidst the manifold stresses of a world at war, perhaps in loneliness or danger—we learn the deeper value of such a fellowship as that which binds us to Chefoo. More than ever do we find strength in each other’s sympathy and cheerful encouragement, in the sharing of each other’s griefs or joys, in the assurance of each other’s prayers.
For such reasons, we are glad to be able to issue this, the fifth war-time News-letter ; and we gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of so many Chefusians in sending us what must be a record volume of news. This heartening evidence that the news-letter meets a real and growing need justifies (we feel) its continued publication for as long as paper-rationing allows.
On behalf of Chefusians everywhere, we should like to express deepest...”

“...was never silent of the click, click of good old bamboo chopsticks.
So this was a “ re-union ”—incomplete, however, until hearty voices singing the twenty-third Psalm threatened to raise the roof.
I remembered the times we used to sit in the dayroom and talk about the future, and laugh at the old school photographs, poking fun at the maidenly grace of frilled pinafores, high tightly-laced boots, flouncy bonnets and pigtails ! Oh yes, times and fashions change, but there’s something about that “ Chefoo ” feeling that always leaves you warm inside, that makes you want to meet other Chefusians. Re-unions?—let’s have more of them ! M.W.F.
Among those present at this Re-union on April 16th, 1941, were :
Mr. and Mrs. Brownlee ; Mr. and Mrs. A. Preedy ; Miss Craig ; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore ; Margaret Bunting ; Priscilla and Margaret Fish ; Patsy Bruce ; Marguerite Dickie ; Ina Martin Brooks ; Mrs. Bevis ; Ruth Bevis ; Myrtle Ludbrook ; Marion Harris ; Buchanan MacMillan ; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rhodes...”

In Memoriam.
Word has just been received of the sudden death of Willi® Windsor from a car accident in Kweichow, China. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife (Connie Brock) and their two children, Marjorie (in school at Chefoo) and Helen, to his Mother, retired in Chefoo, and to his sister, Joyce Windsor Roberts of Burlington, Ontario.
Willie Windsor has been for some years Superintendent for the China Inland Mission of the Province of Kweichow. Perhaps some may remember that his father was also a missionary under the C.I.M. in Kweichow. Willie Windsor used to speak of “digging again the wells of water they had digged in the days of his father . . .”— an attitude which surely showed the fineness of his Christian character.

From a Chefoo letter written in July it appears that MISS PYLE has retired from her life of active administration in the Girls’ House at Chefoo and is now living in the house which MR. and MRS. FAERS occupied before their retirement. Her plan is “that she may have more time and place to offer girls who would otherwise not be able to learn and to enjoy the service of a home. Already two little girls who had not been home for some time had spent a week-end with her and had had the experience of picking and cooking vegetables from the garden and discovering how good eggs tasted that had been fried by the consumer.” The letter describes a linen-showerand house-warming held in her house by 17 out of the 19 Old Girls now living in Chefoo. ISABEL TAYLOR “ spoke of Miss Pyle’s tireless giving in long years of service to us and to the school ; of her patience with the un...”

From ROBERT McCRAE :
