“...Newsletter No. 28 DECEMBER, 1941 Chefoo Schools Great Britain Association % Branch. Editorial. In wartime it is both more difficult and more necessary than in days of peace to keep in touch with one another. Surely now, if ever—amidst the manifold stresses of a world at war, perhaps in loneliness or danger—we learn the deeper value of such a fellowship as that which binds us to Chefoo. More than ever do we find strength in each other’s sympathy and cheerful encouragement, in the sharing of each other’s griefs or joys, in the assurance of each other’s prayers. For such reasons, we are glad to be able to issue this, the fifth war-time News-letter ; and we gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of so many Chefusians in sending us what must be a record volume of news. This heartening evidence that the news-letter meets a real and growing need justifies (we feel) its continued publication for as long as paper-rationing allows. On behalf of Chefusians everywhere, we should like to express deepest...”

“...and her husband are still in Shanghai in Y.M.C.A. work.” At the last Chefoo Re-union held in Toronto in May, 1941, an enlarged framed photograph of MR. and MRS. F. F. HELMER was shown to those present—a gift from Toronto Chefu-sians to the C.I.M. Home in Toronto in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Helmer who did so much for Toronto Chefu-sians. The following is a copy of the letter received from the Mission : “ We wish on behalf of the China Inland Mission to thank the members of the Chefoo Schools Association of Torontoforthe enlargedframed photograph of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. “...was in Iceland, wearing a great coat day and night to keep warm.” From ROBERT McCRAE : " I am writing to thank the Chefoo Schools Association for the very kind parcel which you sent. I think people in the Forces get very much the same sort of pleasure out of receiving a parcel of different sorts of edibles as a school boy does. At any rate I seem to since I joined the Navy. I have just arrived at my present base to take up a new appointment as First Lieutenant on a ship (H.M.S. Pointz Castle). From WALLACE GOFORTH : ” Your box of cakes reminded me of the old ‘ Sunday cake ’ four o’clock hours on Sundays at Chefoo, except that your variety was much tastier and there was more of it ! ” ALBERT WHITTLESEY writes : “ For the past eleven years I have been associated with The Pennsylvania Company, one of the largest bank and trust companies in the State of Pennsylvania and, for that matter, about the twenty-fifth largest bank in the United States. Next month I am going back for my fifteenth re-union...”
