“...Newsletter. No. 8.
DECEMBER, 1933
Chefoo Schools
Association
Great Britain Branch
A MERRY CHRISTMAS and a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our members and Old Chefusians everywhere.
Included in this greeting are all those at the Chefoo Schools who will be Old Chefusians one day, and the Staffs of the three Schools.
This is also the time of year in which we extend a hearty welcome to the latest editions of Old Chefusians who are joining us after saying good-bye to their old school days at Chefoo. We can assure them that we are looking forward to having them at our various gatherings.
Then we wish to second the warm invitation given elsewhere in this issue to all Old Chefusians in China to join our Branch of the C.S.A.
Finally, we would like to shake hands with our splendid contemporary, “ The Chefusian,” at this time ! May we both flourish !

“...SECRETARY’S JOTTINGS.
i_______________________________________________________________I
Our Chefoo Week-end. Anticipation—Realisation, and now Retrospection—and all exceeding our fondest expectations ! In other words, it was Chefoo at its best ! The fact that we had Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy with us is sufficient explanation—we also had that marvellous peanut butter for which we do thank Mr. Willett.
Very many thanks, also, to our Hostess, Miss Harman of the Grove, Watford, whose kindness made our week-end possible.
Another next year ? We do most sincerely hope so !
Our Winter Reunion. Thanks to the kindness of the China Inland Mission, this will be held again at Newington Green on Saturday, January 13th, 1934. Particulars are being issued to our members in Great Britain.
Our Newsletters. Please send news for the next issue to our News-Editor before March 5th, 1934.
Chinese Chow and Chefoo Chat. The next one will be on the morning of the Winter Reunion, at 12.45 p.m., at the Nanking Restaurant...”

THE CHEFOO WEEK-END. July 28th to 31st, 1933.
Can anything beat a Chefoo Reunion ? Yes, a Chefoo Week-end. If you haven’t tried one before, make up your mind now to come to the next. If you live at Timbuctoo and can’t afford the fare, start saving up now, or decide to follow the valiant example set by our Scottish contingent, and begin practising in the art of coming under your own steam !

We had bathing, a tennis tournament and a treasure-hunt, not to speak of sardines ! The Grove School is ideal for this. With its labyrinth of passages and rooms, Chefoo honour to prevent you switching on the lights, and false sardines continually cropping up, it is quite impossible to find the original affair, but quite the best way to have a colossal amount of fun.
When Sunday dawned, something else dawned, too, in some of us. With the chance of talking with one and another, and reviewing the past year, and memories of former years, thoughts came thick and fast. Our own Sunday morning service, led by Mr. Houghton, the informal discussion in the afternoon on...”

IN MEMORIAM.
Rowley Evans gave his life in the service of his country on the North West Frontier of India, where he was serving as a Captain in the Indian Army—September 8th, 1933.
Chefoo has lost another of her very best sons. He was quite one of the best athletes ever produced by Chefoo, but it was his splendid Christian character, above all, which endeared him to those who were boys at Chefoo with him. He was married only last year. We extend to his loved ones our very sincere sympathies.
NORTH AMERICA.
We regTet that no North American news has been received from the Canada Branch, but we have been able to collect the following items :— Marion Taylor, we hear, is now Secretary of the C.S.A. in Canada, and Walter Tyler is acting as Treasurer. Maud Hudson has taken her B.A. and her...”
