Dr Christopher Howe, the Head of the Contemporary China Institute, and I subsequently discussed the idea with Mr Swire himself and the deposit was finally agreed and the papers placed in the Library in 1975. John Swire & Sons generously agreed to provide money for the compilation and publication of a full calendar of the deposited records and we were fortunate enough to be able to secure the services of Mrs Elizabeth Hook to carry out the work.
