“...revised plan of study and somewhat
changed methods of teaching, but personally I think it is even more
due to a growing change in the Indian scholar. He has always been
criticised for his ‘bookishness’ and lack of interest in things outside
‘the book.’ This, I think, is beginning to give way and a more
enquiring spirit is commencing. Nature Study is decidedly arousing
interest, and it has been a pleasure to foster this. Something has been
done in the way of.making a school garden and in beginning a museum,
and I hope that this year still more will be accomplished along these
lines.”
Mr. Parker believes that better equipment will be needed
in the school as in the college.
The second development of importance has been the
voluntary undertaking of commercial classes. Something
of this kind was much needed, but under present circum-
stances it seemed impossible to provide room, apparatus
and proper teaching. However, at the beginning of last
year several of the teachers asked to be allowed to begin...”
