spencien. fluctuations of course. Mr. Moses and the two evangelist catechists have
me maintained the open-air and reading~-room meetings, and I have attended
as often as I could, and find a great delight in this simple helpful work.
Seven or eight regular street preachings were held each week, and two
meetings in the reading-room, and more than 30,000 handbills were
distributed.
‘‘ On festival occasions the neighbouring park and museum are visited
by many thousands of people, many of whom are visitors to Trevandrum.
At these times we have kept up preaching at the gates of the compound
and near the park gates for five or six hours with a relay of speakers,
and have always had most interested audiences, often 400 to 500 strong.

preaching being the gathering of the village congregations in the
