There are five institutions in the capital, not directly con-
nected with district work, which are of vital importance for the:
progress of the Mission.
The first of these is the CoLLEvE. This was commenced in The Collcge.
1869, and in 1876 its scope and teaching were widened by its
being formed into a general college for secular, as well as
theological, subjects. ‘he present handsome and substantial
buildings were opened at the beginning of 1881. They contain a
good library, a good museum, and valuable apparatus for
scientific training; and in the course of the years which have
elapsed since the commencement of the work, a large number
of class-books on various subjects, theological and secular, have
been prepared by the missionaries.
“For several years after the commencement of the College the :
term of study for ministerial students was four years; but as it
became evident that it would be highly beneficial for the
majority of such students to receive some medical training...”
