“...From Mr. Foreman we have received the following details respect
ing the progress of this interesting Mission :-—
“Mr, La Rose, the Teacher, has continued to give great satisfaction to the Com
mittee in the prosecution of his labours, and has met with a considerable amount o1
success. One of the most striking instances is that in which an Indian sorcerer has
been induced to give up his practice, and handed over to Mr. La Rose his ‘ Gabe,’
which I hope soon to forward to you for the Missionary museum.
‘The Rev. G. Pettigrew and Mrs. Pettigrew visited Maria Henrietta in Novem-
ber last, and were exceedingly gratified by all they saw. Mr. P. in a letter to
myself says:—‘l went up expecting a good deal, but what I saw exceeded my
expectations. There were a great many things that I felt to be encouraging, and
very much for which we ought to give God thanks.’
“ Of the meeting-house, completed since my visit of last year, and built entirely of
wood and leaves obtained in the forest around them...”
