Bourne and Williams obtained from the Native Teachers at Aitutake all the idols of that island (a very considerable number) which had escaped the flames. These, it is probable, the Deputation will bring with them, on their return to Europe. An idol from Rarotonga (the only one received from that island) was forwarded direct to the Society, and is now deposited in its Museum. The young king of Aitutake, whose name is Tamotoa, accompanied the brethren on their return to Raiatea, whose pious king bears the same name. Here he has an opportunity of witnessing the beneficial effects produced by Christianity, as well as the improvements which are every where taking place throughout the Society Islands.
