“...their service at home, the Juniors -went to the G.S. and
the senior schools to the Prayer-room. With the coming
of November, the repairing of the Memorial Hall was com-
pleted, arid services were resumed there.
On Oct. 22nd the B.S. flag was hoisted to welcome
Stephen Moseley Houghton to Chefoo.
The G.S. is very sorry to say “Goodbye” to Miss
Pice, who is taking her furlough, but glad to welcome
Miss Pyle just back, who will take her place, and also
Miss Phare who at the time of going to print, is on her
way back to China.
In conclusion we should like to thank all those who
have, kindly contributed to this magazine.
RENOVATIONS AT THE GIRLS’ SCHOOL.
ijtHE was a phantom of—” Bang!! Clang! “Oh that
noise again! Please shut the window. Yes, that’s
better.” “Well girls, as I was saying ” BANG-! “Really,
I think we had better go outside.”
Such were the daily occurrences in Va classroom
during the weeks when the new kitchen was being built, or
to put it more correctly, when the old one was being...”

“...his light-hearted contributions. The Society will be
the poorer for the loss of these two loyal and helpful mem-
bers, as also for the loss of Mr. Walker whose sound sense
and useful suggestions have been valuable. The Committee
have been energetic and fertile of ideas: and the prospect
for the Spring Term is bright.
We have had more debates this term than usual,
and the subjects debated have ranged from local problems
such as the suggestion that Vegetarianism should be in-
troduced into the Schools, (this was rejected after a close
Debate) to world policy, as in a debate on the proposal
that the armies of the world should be limited in their
armature to Air-guns: this pacific suggestion was approved
by a small majority of the House. Other matters debated
have been the lot of the Only Child, the effects of the
Advance of Science on human happiness, the alarming
growth of Communism in the School, whether Guy Fawkes
was a Martyr, (in this debate Mr. Mellow scored heavily
with some bogus facts...”

take this opportunity of thanking them once again for the
jolly and profitable times we have had.
Much promising material has been sent in for the
magazine and had space allowed, some budding poets and
essayists would have appeared in print. We hope to see
more from H. Briscoe, D. Tull, B. Draffin, M. Earle and
G. Briscoe.
We should like to call attention of all friends of
CHEFOO, to an admirable book of that name, just pub-
lished, by the China Inland Mission, on the occasion of
the Schools’ Jubilee. It is most attractively produced, the
dark-blue cover adorned with a charming water-colour,
framed in gold, the subject, the Bluff in sunset hues.

the book down until you come to the last word.
