“...March of last year
Mr. G. Findlay Andrew left for Kansu to superintend the
work of investigation and distribution of famine relief on
behalf of the Famine Relief Commission. After perform-
ing this task with great credit he returned to Chefoo to
take up his position on the B.S. Staff once more. In
January, I960, however, he received a sudden and urgent
request from the Relief Committee to go to Kansu again
for further work along the same lines; a donation of a
million dollars, promised by American friends, had been
made, on condition that Mr. Andrew personally superint-
ended its distribution. Accordingly, early in February, he
left Chefoo for North-West China, carrying with him the
best wishes of his many friends....”

Mr. Andrew’s place on the Staff has been taken by
Mr. Lyall, B.A. Cantab.; Miss F.H. Moore, B.A. Oxon.,
the fiancee of Mr. Martin of the B.S., has joined the G.S.
Staff, while Miss D.B. Benson has come to teach at the
Prep. To all these we extend the heartiest welcome,
hoping that they may pass many useful and. happy days
in Chefoo.
Mr. Lyall has taken up the position of Football-
master and the standard of play is rising under his su-
pervision. Of the six matches1 between Settlement and
School this term, four* were won, two lost and one drawn.
Old boys will be interested, to hear that Junior house-
matches were played for the first time. The Senior teams
played nine a side and the Junior, six.
During the latter half of the term, at least, the
Sports have occupied a very prominent place in the
thoughts of all. With the Long Run happily over on
Saturday the 5th. of April, competitors have been able to
concentrate entirely on track-training. Owing to the coach-
ing of Mr. Houghton and...”

a vast mountain of sweets calculated to delight the heart
of any schoolboy. Christmas dinner was prepared at the
Cr.S., where the afternoon activities were also held. These
consisted of contributions from all three schools, including
a charade of “Santa Claus” acted by the boys: a story
by Mr. Martin: and finally the mysterious appearance, of
Father Christmas, who distributed presents to nearly every-
one present, not excluding adults.
When at last the next term brought the parties back
to Chefoo and holidays were over, the memories of the
good times spent here were still retained, and doubtless
will serve to brighten the future days of the “Stayers”,
even after they have reached a ripe old age....”

“...never once stopping till T was safely

Now, I ask you, sir, is it right that the younger
members of your school should treat a respectable middle-
aged gentleman so?
I close,
Yours expectantly,

“...gathering of friends, foreign and Chinese,
met at the funeral service which was held in the Memorial
Hall, where tributes Were paid by three missionaries and
by Dr. Li of the Lily Douthwaite Hospital.
Mr. Andrew identified himself so intimately with the
life of the three Schools that he is being missed by young
and old alike. His unfailing cheerfulness and characteristic
humour endeared him to all, but it Was his likeness to His
Master that attracted so many and made him such a spiritual
power in Chefoo. With him and around him Was the savour
of the Son of God.
