Some time fiince the Memorialist sug-
gested the following changes in the distri-
bution of ocials on the Yiinuan frontier.
a. The Brigade Generals of Kai.huft
and Lin-yuan to reside during the autumn
and winter months at Ma-pai Kuau aud
Meng-tzu Hsien respectively.
b. A Major from the central battalion of
the K^i-hua force to reside permanently
atMa-pai Kuan, another Major being ap-
pointed to reside at K^i-hua.
An additional Major to be added to
the Lin-yu^nDivisioD to reside permanently
at Meng-tzu Haien.
d* The Sub-Prefecb of Shuang Shui
to be removed to Ko-chiu Ch(ang

banded soldiers, and charitable asBiatance
to the inhabitants of the border. All these
together will require au immense expendi-
