sions nre severally commanded by Kin-shun
(Commander-in-chief), Chang Yao
and Ngeh-urh -lc5ing-ngeh. The
last-named officer has under him a force of
375 cavalry, including three hundred
Manclius from the Kirin and Amur regions.
Chang ]Tao lias 12 battalions of foot and
two of horse, the commipsariat of which is
to be provided from Honan; and Kin-sliun
has under his personal command thirty
odd battHlions of horse and foot, the in-
fantry numbering 500 men per battalion
and the cavalry 250. The total force of
the three divisions is about 17,000 men of
all armsincluding 2,000 troops formerly
commanded by GIfengluh, (the general
now lying under sentence of death at
Peking); and with ocersservants, and
coolies, the total number is very nearly
20,000 men. Coming to the question of
commissariat expenditure,provisions are
to be collected in Kansuli and sent forward
through the Yii-men Pass and by way of
Ngan-si Chow, and taking all expenses into
