- Abstract:
- Pegu Meh Daw ("Royal Mother of Pegu"). Myanmar (Burma), circa 1920. This gilded teakwood sculpture depicts a popular female that or spirit figure that takes its name from Pegu (now Bago), a town 70 km east of Yangon. She is popular throughout Lower Myanmar and is one of the official "Thirty-Seven Nats" of that region. She is also known as Lady Buffalo, referring to her headdress representing a buffalo head with two horns. H76 x W24 cm. SOASAW 2014.0261.29. Gift of Elizabeth Moore, 2014. THE BRUNEI GALLERY
