“...imports during 1905 with that of the previous year it may be noted that increases are shown in the values of the imports from the United Kingdom (24,000,000 Haikwan taels), India (2,500,000 Haikwan taels), Hong-Kong and Australia (500,000 Haikwan taels each), the United States (34,000,000 Haikwan taels), Japan (19,000,000 Haikwan taels), Russia (2,750,000 Haikwan taels) ^nd the Dutch Indies (500,000 Haikwan taels), making a total increase in the foreign import trade of some 60,000,000 taels. The value of the exports of native produce abroad in the year under review shows a falling-ofE, when compared with that in 1904, of some 20,000,000 Haikwan taels, principally in the trade with Japan (10,000,000 Haikwan taels) ; the Continent of Europe, excluding Russia (7,000,000 Haikwan taels); the United States (3,250,000 Haikwan tales); Turkey, Persia, &c. (1,500,000 Haikwan taels); and the United Kingdom and India together about 500,000 Haikwan taels. There is no great increase or decrease recorded...”
